PFC EXPLORERS!

They are small and happy and curious, they are our future campers!! This weekend marked the second Explorer weekend and it was a hit! More Explorers than ever! Up to gymnastics,  down to the lake, out to a campfire. They are doing it all and sleeping in a real bunk tonight with real counselors and real bunkmates, future camp friends.

Parents had a tour of camp while their children settled in.  At lineup tonight each Explorer was introduced with a rousing cheer.  So many present campers were once Explorers. It’s a fabulous way to experience camp. (Not to brag but almost every camper who tries PFC, loves it and comes back as a camper the next summer.)

And there’s only one Explorer weekend left and very few openings, if any; it’s Visiting Day weekend, July 26-27 for siblings of campers. If you are thinking about camp, come on up and explore!!

CA Costa Rica has landed, College Day takes off!

As if the rope burning weren’t exciting enough to kick off College Day
2014, just as the flames shot high into the night, a big coach bus pulled
into camp by the boys pool and out jumped our 11th graders back from the
trip of a lifetime. High fives, cheers and hugs as they landed back at PFC
with stories to tell and hearts full of good cheer. They had brought the
magic of camp to children who needed it in a far away land. Ambassadors
from Greeley, USA to the world. They made us proud. And they walked with a
little more  confidence in their steps than when they left, two weeks ago.

Back to the excitement of College Day, after a majestic opening
ceremony with flaming torches, flags, costumes and cheers it was a day
full of rivalry. Long distance runs, relays races, swim meets and more.
Duke! Syracuse! Penn State! Pitt! Everyone giving that old college try!
Tonight the winning team will be announced, then it’s back to elementary
and middle school.

Three Falls!

There must be some sort of legend that states something along the lines of, ‘if you visit three waterfalls in one day, you will be granted eternal youth, or at the very least…Extra canteen.’

But, all that comes to mind is TLC’s 90’s R&B anthem, “Waterfalls”. A song heard in many bunks throughout camp in the summer of 1995. A ‘summer song’ if there ever was one.

In any case, the Hi Senior boys of Bunk Pine spent the larger part of yesterday hiking the area’s most serene waterfalls: Shohola, Bushkill and Raymondskill Falls with Nafis.

Later in the day you could find the boys drinking pop, eating soft pretzels and watching the MLB All-Star Game. And the girls, a big sister/little sister extravaganza!

But, alas, nothing beats camp. Not even waterfalls, soft pretzels and pop.

Strike a Pose: InterCamp Baseball and Bunk Pictures!

It was a crazy day here at PFC! Our boys went down the road to play baseball in a Pike County Athletic Association away game but after a few innings had a rain delay. Campers were in their camp shirts as they quickly posed for “official” bunk photographs (to be given out on Visiting Day to all families!) and headed out to activities. Lots of smiles, that’s for sure!

The sun broke through and beach volleyball was in full swing. Practice began for the first-ever camper-counselor tennis tournament; even our own 89-year-old Uncle Marvin Black had a partner when Senior Boy Justin P. (whose grandfather went to PFC back in the 1950’s!) asked Marv to be his partner. Justin and Marv are practicing to win the tournament.

Jr. boys paddled to Blueberry Island, Bunk Sunflower departed for their overnight…All normal stuff here at camp!

SCUBA!

It was a beautiful day at PFC and a perfect time to go scuba diving. That’s right, scuba diving. Ok, it’s not the Great Barrier Reef, just the boys pool, but we learned the basics and it was awesome! Tank, mask, flippers, the works!!!

GaGa, Yoga….SCUBA!

The Inter Cup!

The Inter Cup!
We have banners and cheers and songs. We are the Inter boys!

The Cypress Brotherhood
United Birch
The Orange Juicers
The Cedar Cyclones

The Inter Cup goes to the bunk that consistently excels in competition and not just sports, clean up, dining room etiquette, sportsmanship and special wacky relays. All under the madcap watch of Alex Snyder, the counselor with the most costumes in camp.
Have fun, get crazy, think big. Be a PFC Inter boy!!!!

Dribbler on the Roof!

A big day in sports: LeBron to Cleveland and Corey “The Dribbler” Rich to PFC.

Corey Rich brought his basketball dribbling expertise to Pine Forest, proving that hard work and practice really pays off. Corey has played basketball overseas, toured the country with his skills and has even appeared on the Letterman show! That’s cool!

Corey entertained our campers with interactive games, tips and drills and at one point dribbled six basketballs at once. It took ten campers to steal the ball from him!

Corey taught us that just because he isn’t the tallest, he never gave up on his dream of entertaining people through his love of basketball.

PFC Wins!

Buzzer beater…Well, sort of.

Congratulations to the 2014 Hughie Black Invitational Team!

It came down to the wire on Chadwin Court. Game tied, 28-28, 30 seconds to go. PFC held the ball for the final possession. With 7 seconds left, Ethan drove to the basketball and got FOULED with the game tied 28-28. First free-throw up, rims out, no good. Second attempt, ball up, rims around and around and around…GOOD! PFC up by 1.

Opponent inbounds, far side, half court shot, NO GOOD. PFC WINS! COURT STORMED!

One of many amazing moments today at PFC.

Onward and Upward!

It’s the most famous trail in the world, the iconic Appalachian trail.
If you start in Georgia you can reach Maine. And some of its most stunning
sections are right here at the Delaware Water Gap in Pennsylvania. Today
our tripping leader, professional adventurer and award-winning teacher
Nafis took a few adventurous Senior girls for a walk along the trail.
Check out the view!

These campers will surely have many achievements and successes in their
lives. And today will be one of them. One day they’ll be able to tell
their grandchildren, “I hiked the Appalachian Trail”.
