Jungle Book Rehearsals have BEGUN!

Campers have their parts and the tech / stage crew is already working hard on the scenery and props. It’s “Jungle Book,” the first all camp production of the year!  Sing with us!

“Forget about your worries and your strife, I mean the bare necessities, Old Mother Nature’s recipes, That brings the bare necessities of life”!

Inter-Camp Gymnastics Meet Today

All eyes were on the competitors, you could hear a pin drop. It was an intense, graceful, exquisite gymnastics competition. Today, campers competed in a 4-camp gymnastics meet. Tumbling, bars, vaulting, beam and more. Judges watched closely and graded each performance carefully. Thank you, Traci, and our amazing gymnastics staff for a very professional and exciting event.

History Made on Chadwin Court Today

History was made on Chadwin Court today.

It was a first. It was amazing. It was unforgettable.

It was Weston B.’s all out, full tilt, massive dunk.

In his 50 years at PFC, Chad said that he has never seen a camper dunk the
ball in either a league or intercamp game. Today it happened. PFC’s 15 and
under team was playing another camp from across the lake. Weston stole the
ball, dribbled all the way down court and slammed the ball, Dr. J-style,
with a swooping right hook, right through the net. After a moment of awed
silence, the team and the fans erupted in cheers.

Our founder and pro hoopster, Uncle Hughie Black, and the great Wilt
Chamberlain, who played for PFC in the 1950’s, would be proud.

Red, White, Blue and Gold!

July 4th is one of the best days at camp, so we woke up to pure excitement today! Our 10s came through each bunk decked out in red, white and blue and they paraded around camp with whistles and bullhorns in their decorated golf carts!

We walked into the dining room to find the entire place decorated with red, white and blue balloons and streamers. For breakfast, we had french toast with strawberries (red), whipped cream (white), and blueberries (blue) and fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts – a true PFC tradition!

We did lunch the only way we know how to on the 4th: a special meal complete with foot-long hot dogs!

This afternoon, we had an awesome carnival come to camp! It was complete with an inflatable obstacle course for the pool and massive inflatable waterslides!

The highlight of 4th of July at camp are the best fireworks display in Pike County over Mitchell Field. We always hear from alumni that July 4th reminds them of their cherished time in Greeley. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Happy birthday, America!

Mickey’s Book Club is a “HOOT!”

Mickey Black loves to read and so do our campers!  This summer, he started a BOOK CLUB!  This summer, interested campers will be reading 3 chapters a week of Carl Hiaasen’s award winning book “Hoot.” It’s a “funny ecological mystery adventure,” perfect for middle school-age campers. AND it’s perfect for a rest period discussion in the picnic grove with Mickey.

The Cheeto Trail

There once was a chipmunk who snuck into a bunk
Who knows how it got there but it was under some junk

The campers weren’t happy and made a quite a row
So out came a crew to try to get it to go

They tried to corner it with brooms and a pan
But that little chipmunk could jump and it ran

How to remove it? An idea came to the fore!
Make a trail of goodies for it to follow out the door

And sure enough out the door it turned
It scampered away, never to return

Big Sister | Little Sister

The secret is out!

This week Senior and Hi-Senior girls got the names of their “little sisters”. It was up to them to provide clues as to who they are. Is that a note under my pillow? A bracelet in my cubby? Who made my bed for me? Last night was the BIG REVEAL: Older campers identified themselves to their little sisters at a multi-dimentional evening activity!

It was a great few days of mystery and excitement!

Exploding Colors!

Here’s how you start off the Arts and Crafts program with a bang!

Jaime Brodsky, Head of Arts and Crafts, figured out that if you take a small plastic container, add some color and a little Alka Seltzer, shake it up and then stand back, it will explode high into the air and leave a splash of color behind.  Campers loved it!

Not only were amazing colorful art pieces created but we had an early preview of 4th of July  fireworks, Arts and Crafts style!

Basketball Leagues Have Begun!

Basketball leagues have begun.

The NBA just had the draft and so did PFC. Last night, Juniors divided into teams and began the first games of the 2018 league program. Intramural leagues were started at Pine Forest back in the 1960’s by Stan Ward, coach of Brown University and taken to a new and exciting level by our own award-winning  Athletic Director  Steve Chadwin. Every division is divided into equal teams and there’s all-out competition until at the end of the summer one team in each division is crowned champion.  It’s fun, it’s high energy, and the winners get their names inscribed forever in Hughie Hall. (Named after Hughie Black, our own basketball star.)

It’s Hoops time in Hughie Hall!
