We Love Our Explorers!

A little rain never stops us! We just had our last Explorer weekend of the summer and boy was it a fun one! We had an amazing group of families with future campers going into 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th grades. They got to play in the lake (which is extra fun in the rain, by the way!), go on the giant swing at adventure, make projects in arts and crafts and play games with Chad. They were even able to have a campfire despite the weather, by bringing it indoors! They slept in real bunks with real counselors and bunkmates who will soon be their lifelong camp friends. We look forward to seeing them back next summer as PFC campers!

Kindness Day

This #flashbackfriday, we’re reflecting on how awesome Kindness Day was on Wednesday. The highlight of the day was our 1^st Annual Pay It Forward Scavenger Hunt! Our campers worked together doing different team-building activities at all 28 stations of the scavenger hunt. Each station had a clue to the next. See below for an example!

Station #1
OBJECTIVE: Work together and use the bed sheet to shoot the basketball and make a basket. Have each person in your group grab an end of the bed sheet and hold it with BOTH hands.

Everyone needs to hold the bedsheet with 2 hands.
Place the basketball in the middle.
Now shoot.
You can stand from anywhere.
You have about 3-4 mins to make a basket.
Start your timer NOW!
YOU CAN DO IT! WORK TOGETHER!
But if you don’t make a basket with the sheet, no worries. Have your coach make a shot on the way out and cheer them on!

Some examples of acts of kindness are the creation of a banner for our kitchen staff that has messages of thanks written all over it, picking up trash around camp, taking a moment to appreciate the nature around us by hugging a tree, cheering on other campers, and hand-delivering flowers made out of pipe cleaners to our amazing office staff. Our campers are the BEST!

The trips are back and we are so excited to have a full camp again! Our Junior boys and Inter girls went on a hiking trip and Upper Camp is at Hughie Hall at our 3 on 3 basketball tournament.

While the countdown to breakout is on, we have SO many other things to look forward to!

Lower Camp Takeover!

It doesn’t get much better than this for lower camp! Our older campers are officially all away on their trips. Juniors and Intermediates have the run of camp. It’s a lower camp takeover! It was the perfect opportunity to have BACKWARDS DAY! We’re talking backwards hats, backwards clothes and even backwards flag raising! The highlight of the day was one of our all-time favorites: GOLD RUSH. There were hidden pieces of gold throughout camp and the campers had to run around and find them. We think the below photo says a lot. And tonight? A lower camp social! They could get used to this…

It’s Senior trips time! Our 9-11^th graders look forward to this week every summer and it’s finally here! Our 9^th graders are in New England (currently at the Red Sox game!) and our 10^th graders seamlessly crossed the border into Montreal. Curious as to what they’re up to? We thought so! The Tent Has Arrived!

The tent is officially going up which means Visiting Day is just days away! We can’t wait to see everyone! A few reminders as you prepare for your favorite day of summer:

Campers will be waiting for you on the porch of their cabin with their counselors. Parents, walk…don’t run! The Hi-Senior girls (grades 9-10) will be at Netsy Playhouse. If you’re late, don’t worry, the counselors will stay with their campers until every family arrives.

Once again, we’d like to remind you that we do not allow food containing nuts into camp, and our policy is to dispose of all Visiting Day treats on Monday, so don’t overdo the food! Camp will provide a delicious lunch for all!

Please keep in mind that only Counselor Assistants, “CAs” (11th Graders) are permitted out of camp on Visiting Day, and they must sign out and back into camp at the front office. CAs are allowed out no earlier than 12:30PM and must be back in camp by 5:00PM.

Today’s Line-Up Announcements!

Good morning, PFC! We have perfect weather and a lot of exciting things happening around camp today. We have a basketball “Hoops” clinic with Chad during 6th period, rock band practice at the new performance stage with Aiden, a water polo game at general swim, a fitness class with Remi, dance practice and a swim team competition.

Today is also Halloween at camp (because why not?!), so feel free to dress in a costume! Oh, and beware: we have a skunk alert! One was spotted outside of bunk Hickory last night. Visiting Day is coming up! Be sure to save a clean official.

Colombia and Sweden

What do these two countries have in common? They BOTH won Olympics 2016 at PFC. It was Colombia for the boys and Sweden for the girls. And it all came down to the Steeple Chase, that race that goes all throughout camp, from Lauri Field to Lake Greeley and back and involves almost every activity in camp. In fact, it was so close that by the time both teams got to archery, it was one missed arrow that made the difference. That’s where boys‘ Colombia pulled ahead of Japan.

Thank you Chad and Tully for an awesome 2 days of fun and excitement for both the campers and counselors.

Bring on Olympics!

Hello, Olympics! Tonight is our opening ceremony and our campers are decked out in their teams’ colors. They look awesome! This year’s teams are Japan, Colombia, Senegal and Sweden.

After Chad recites the Olympic oath and we witness some impressive interpretive dancing by our division leaders, each division will be competing in an egg toss, freeze dance, a watermelon eating contest, a 3-point shootout, tug of war, and of course, a cheer-off. May the loudest and proudest team win! After our ceremony, we’ll head to Mitchell Field for the rope burn. Stay tuned for more exciting Olympic updates throughout the day tomorrow!

A Flying Saucer!

Happy Saturday! We don’t know about your day, but the highlight of our day was our new “flying saucer” inflatable in the lake! Campers were spotted on it all day and it looked like they were having a blast. We also welcomed a great group of Explorers! Our campers have been making it known that they are excited to have them here. Other highlights: a swim meet, brother-sister visitation, a Krav Maga self-defense workshop and Taco Saturday!

Tonight, girls camp has a very special campfire during which Mickey will play his guitar and lead the girls in singing Brown Eyed Girl, I Can See Clearly, Stand by Me and Sweet Caroline. Parents, we think this is a set list you can get behind!
